Do Flying Spiders Exist in Texas?

Beware, fellow Texans!

If you've been wondering whether those eerie tales of flying spiders are true, Google has some answers. According to KSAT, there are indeed flying spiders in the Lone Star State.

What to Look For

The most common flying spiders you're likely to encounter are funnel weaver grass spiders, orb weaver spiders, brown Texas recluses, and Carolina wolf spiders. They're not actually capable of true flight, but instead "balloon" through the air using silk threads.

Not to Be Confused with Joro Spiders

One notable exception is the Joro spider, a member of the golden silk orb-weavers. These large spiders are native to the southeastern United States but have recently been spotted in Texas. Unlike flying spiders, Joro spiders can actually glide short distances.
